Specifically, the S7-1200 G2 controllers enable machine builders to control multiple coordinated axes and simple kinematics. Customers will benefit from enhanced performance capabilities thanks to improved processing power, dedicated communication resources, and increased memory. In addition, thanks to Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality, users will be able to access the device’s diagnostic and operational data via an app directly from a smartphone. Text-based diagnostic information covering an entire programmable logic controller (PLC) station reduces machine downtime and allows users to quickly access data.

ANALOG EXPANSIONS
Expansion modules for analog inputs and outputs are available to supplement the integrated I/O of SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 CPUs, featuring extremely short conversion times for connecting analog sensors and actuators without an additional amplifier:
- Signal Modules as separate units compatible with all SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 CPUs
- Signal Boards as plug-in modules for use on the CPU in space-constrained applications, compatible with all SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 CPUs
COMMUNICATIONS UNIT
Each SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 controller can be expanded with up to three different communication modules (CM) and, depending on the selected CPU type, with up to two communication boards (CB) for the 1214 G2 CPU, while only one communication board (CB) is supported for the 1212 G2 CPU.
In addition to the integrated Ethernet interface, this results in a wide variety of connection options, such as application-specific protocols like USS or Modbus.
CM 1241 RS232/422/485
The CM 1241 card supports three types of configuration: RS232, RS422, and RS485.
- Only one type of configuration can be used per CM.
- These communication types cannot be used simultaneously on the same CM.
- However, if desired, each CM can be configured with a different communication type.

The CB 1241 RS485 card supports only the RS485 communication protocol and is a module that plugs directly into the CPU.
